Nairobi,November 16, 2017 Demand for bananas in Kenya is experiencing a rise amid short supply and unmet demand. USAID-KAVES conducted a survey in 2015 whose goal was to ‘Provide evidence-based justification for interventions.’ With the Key objective – gather and analyze information on key constraints and market opportunities- the survey focused on major growing areas and markets across 11 counties by interviewing 142 traders and 125 farmers. By analyzing production and markets of the banana, the survey identified six demand drivers which include markets, challenges, consumption, profits, value addition and government policy.
The findings from the survey incorporate market opportunities, actual and unmet demand, banana varieties traded, trading prices and niche.
