NPCK establishes potato demonstration sites across eight counties

The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) has collaborated with 20 companies to establish eight demonstration sites across strategic potato-growing counties in Kenya for the long rains season. These counties encompass Nakuru, Narok, UasinGishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bungoma, Nyandarua, Nyeri, and Meru

These companies are Solynta, Agrico PSA, Kisima, IPM Potato Group, Freshcrop Ltd, FIPS-AgriRevive, OCP Kenya Ltd, Elgon Kenya Ltd, Ayedos Group Ltd, Yara Ltd, Fanisi Fertilizer, Lachlan Kenya Ltd, Real IPM, aak-GROW, Biolevel E.A, Kevian Kenya Ltd, Bayer E. A, Agribase Bioscience Ltd, Syngenta E. A, and Corteva Agriscience.

The primary objective of these demonstration sites is to showcase a diverse array of potato varieties and their applications. Additionally, the initiative aims to disseminate vital knowledge on crop nutrition, crop protection, and the adoption of best agricultural practices. Furthermore, it endeavors to facilitate market connections to enhance opportunities for potato farmers.

The culmination of these demonstrations will be farmer field days, providing a platform for practical engagement and learning as the crops near maturity. This collaborative endeavor underscores a unified commitment between NPCK and the 20 partnering companies towards the advancement and sustainability of potato farming in Kenya.
