Swiss Cargo expands

Swissport Cargo Services (SCS) has opened the  largest warehouse facility to help support its growing business at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

“SCS also realized that with security becoming an increasingly important issue in aviation, there was a need for cargo handling facilities to move to locations with direct access to the airport, ” the company said..

The facility estimated to cost about  Ksh billion measures 10,500 square metres and has an estimated annual throughput capacity of 150,000 tonnes.

JKIA has five cargo handling facilities with capacity to handle 200,000 tonnes per year. The airport also has a holding capacity of 4,317 square feet.

The bulk of exports are perishables, mainly flowers. SCS says it has a 2,500 square metre space for office space to be used by the administrators and it can be leased to clearing agents and government agencies.
