Nigerian Farmers are getting ready to enter Global Markets with GLOBALG.A.P. Certification

September 1, 2017, Nairobi. The two day tour event was attended by 65 individuals of highly diverse backgrounds.

More than half of the attendants were farmers. All delegates were eager to learn how to access international markets, but also strengthen and expand domestic markets as well. Mrs Patricia Obichukwu – MD/CEO Best Produce International UK Ltd and her partner in Nigeria, Mrs Adetoun Abbi-Olaniyan, founder and owner of Maidville Consulting, brought a number of women farmers to the event.

The large number of delegates were very enthusiastic and participated in a group picture to document and celebrate the postive momentum of the newly formed NTWG Nigeria. Friedrich Lüdeke provided a wonderful explanation of the impact of this group’s contributions and significance, and his comments were followed up with a passionate promotion by Victor Avah, Secretary of the NTWG Ghana.

A workshop style program revealed three main types of challenges for Nigerian farmers: (1) Logistics and safe handling of produce; (2) Operator/farmer knowledge gap and lack of consumer awareness for safe food; (3) Lack of information on how to address problems and change to move forward.

The delegates presented a collection of potential solutions to these three areas after round table discussions. This is a great starting point for the NTWG Nigeria, and gave the awareness that collaboration will bring benefit to all.
