The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) have launched a circular bioeconomy enterprise support programme in the Lake Basin, targeting businesses that turn organic waste and biological resources into innovative, commercially viable products. The programme will select 15 enterprises from Busia, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties for intensive business and technical support aimed at strengthening their operations, improving investment readiness and preparing them for growth.
The initiative, implemented under the CGIAR Multifunctional Landscapes Program, is open to community-based organisations, cooperatives, startups and small and medium-sized enterprises working in the circular bioeconomy sector. Priority will be given to youth- and women-led enterprises operating in the five target counties.
Selected enterprises will receive tailored support including business and technical capacity assessments, financial literacy and investment-readiness support, practical business model development, and expert guidance on commercialisation and scaling. The programme is designed to help enterprises strengthen local value chains while creating green employment opportunities and promoting more sustainable management of biological resources and landscapes in the Lake Basin.
The programme offers support not only to improve their technical and business capacity but also to develop stronger commercial models and pathways to investment and growth. Eligible enterprises have until September 15, 2026, to submit their applications.
