In response to a tip-off from an exporter alerting authorities to the illicit transportation of Kenyan avocados into Tanzania, the Agriculture and Food Authority has taken swift action. Dispatching a surveillance officer to Namanga, a collaborative effort with security personnel resulted in the interception of four trucks carrying the contraband avocados destined for Tanzania. The seized trucks are currently held at the Namanga customs office, and those involved in the smuggling operation have been apprehended. Legal proceedings are underway, as the individuals will be brought to court for violating the provisions outlined in the Crops Act 2013 and the Crops (Horticulture) Crops Regulations 2020.
