The Agrochemical Association of Kenya (AAK) Grow has urged farmers to take early precautions as the country anticipates forecast El Niño conditions, emphasizing the importance of crop monitoring, responsible pest control and sustainable farm management. In a message shared on its social media platforms, AAK Grow encouraged farmers to stay informed about weather developments and take timely action to protect their crops, livelihoods and the environment. The association highlighted the need for farmers to closely monitor their fields and respond early to emerging crop health challenges as changing weather conditions can create additional pressure on agricultural production.

AAK Grow also emphasized the importance of responsible pesticide use, advising farmers to use only registered pest control products where necessary and to strictly follow label instructions. The guidance comes as farmers prepare for the potential effects of El Niño, which can bring heavy rainfall in some areas, increasing the risk of flooding, waterlogging, soil erosion and crop diseases. Such conditions can also create favourable environments for certain pests and plant pathogens.
Early preparation, including regular crop scouting, maintaining effective drainage and seeking advice from qualified agricultural experts, can help farmers reduce potential losses and improve farm resilience. AAK Grow’s message reinforces the importance of integrating weather awareness, responsible crop protection and environmentally conscious farming practices into farm planning. The association encouraged farmers to adopt a proactive approach as the season approaches, summed up in its call: “Stay informed. Act early. Use responsibly. Farm sustainably.”
