World Potato Congress preparations in Kenya heats up

Nairobi, July 3, 2025 – Kenya has officially kick-started preparations to host the prestigious World Potato Congress 2026, with the Planning Committee holding its first in-person meeting today. The milestone gathering brought together key industry players and stakeholders to align on the roadmap ahead.

Among those in attendance were representatives from the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), the COMESA -EAC Horticulture Accelerator (CEHA), International Potato Center (CIP), Corteva Agriscience, Freshcrop, Kevian Ltd., and other sector partners.

The agenda focused on reviewing progress made during earlier virtual consultations, solidifying hosting arrangements, and strengthening strategic partnerships. The committee also explored expanding participation through specialized subcommittees and mapped out upcoming milestones—including the much-anticipated visit by the President of the World Potato Congress.

The meeting underscored a shared vision to make WPC 2026 a landmark event—one that fosters innovation, inclusivity, and transformative growth within Africa’s potato value chain and beyond.
