Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo today hosted a high-level meeting with PS Dr. Kipronoh Rono (Agriculture), PS Eng. Festus Ngeno (Environment), and IFAD Country Director Mariatu Kamara to review progress of the Kenya Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP).
The meeting welcomed a major boost for climate-smart agriculture with an additional KES 325 million (USD 2.5M) grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation under the Climate Smart Agribusiness Partnerships for Resilience (CSAPR) initiative.
Dr. Kiptoo noted that the new funding will enhance climate information systems, enabling farmers and agri-MSMEs to access timely data to improve productivity, resilience, and profitability.
“This support will ensure farmers make informed decisions, strengthen food security, and safeguard livelihoods while building resilience against climate shocks,” said Dr. Kiptoo.
INReMP is a KES 34 billion (USD 262.68M) programme jointly funded by the Government of Kenya, IFAD, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The programme covers 10 counties across the Cherangany Hills and Mau West water towers and is set to directly benefit 407,176 rural households (over 2 million people).
Its interventions focus on:
- Community-led climate and ecosystem action
- Inclusive and sustainable rural livelihoods
- Strengthened policies and institutions for integrated natural resource management
The PSs and partners reaffirmed their commitment to restore ecosystems, boost food and nutrition security, and support income resilience for farming communities in Kenya.
