Title: Andermatt: Pioneering Sustainable Agriculture in Kenya

At a recent field meeting, The Hortinews team had the opportunity to explore the mission and vision of Andermatt, a leading agricultural group dedicated to sustainable farming and economic growth in Kenya. Andermatt’s commitment to feeding the continent sustainably while strengthening Kenya’s economy through the export of high-quality, residue-free, and healthy food was at the forefront of the discussion.

Mr. Hamish Ker, CEO of Andermatt, outlined the company’s primary aim of enhancing the Kenyan export market’s ability to produce quality food and products through sustainable farming practices. He emphasized that the treatment of seeds plays a crucial role in increasing food production, a key focus for Andermatt’s innovative approaches.

Among the company’s noteworthy advancements are plant-specific and pest-specific products. One such product, Cryptex, has gained recognition for its effectiveness in dealing with the codling moth, a persistent agricultural pest. By targeting specific plants and pests, Andermatt ensures that their solutions are both effective and environmentally friendly.

Mr. Ker also highlighted the benefits of using humic acid on DAP fertilizer. This combination enhances the fertilizer’s effectiveness on both plants and soil, promoting healthier growth and more robust yields. This innovation further underscores Andermatt’s dedication to sustainable agriculture practices.

Through these initiatives, Andermatt is making significant strides in improving agricultural practices in Kenya. Their efforts not only support the country’s goal of increasing high-quality food exports but also contribute to the broader mission of sustainable and efficient farming across the continent.
