DHL’s new Agri Express service aims to streamline logistics from Kenyan farms to international markets, offering dedicated support for both small and large exporters.
DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa has launched a new service dubbed Agri Express, targeting exporters of fresh avocados in Kenya. The service is designed to offer an end-to-end logistics solution — from farm to market — for both small-scale growers and large commercial exporters.
In a public call shared on DHL’s digital platforms, the logistics company invited avocado growers and exporters to open shipping accounts and take advantage of competitive rates, streamlined handling, and tailored logistics support for their produce.
According to DHL, the Agri Express service provides specialised packaging and logistics designed to maintain the quality and shelf life of avocados during transit. It aims to simplify the often complex logistics process involved in getting fresh produce from Kenyan farms to international markets.
“Whether you’re shipping small or large cargo, DHL has a solution for you. Tell us about your shipping needs and enjoy competitive rates and other benefits,” the company stated in its communication to exporters.
The new offering comes at a time when Kenya’s avocado exports are on the rise, driven by increasing global demand, especially from markets in Europe, the Middle East, and recently, Asia. Industry data shows that Kenya exported over 100,000 metric tonnes of avocados in the last season, with the number expected to grow as more farmers venture into the high-value crop.
Exporters have long cited logistics as one of the major challenges in the avocado value chain. These include high freight costs, limited cold chain infrastructure, and delays that compromise fruit quality upon arrival. DHL’s new service aims to address these issues by providing a dedicated channel for fresh produce, reducing handling times and improving traceability.
The Agri Express platform is open to individual farmers, cooperatives, packhouses, and export companies. Interested exporters are encouraged to open a DHL account to access the benefits, which include priority handling, export documentation support, and destination tracking.
The launch of Agri Express is in line with DHL’s broader strategy to support agricultural exports in Africa. The company recently partnered with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) to publish a study on agritech and logistics as key enablers for agricultural growth on the continent.
For Kenyan avocado growers and exporters, the service presents an opportunity to tap into DHL’s global logistics network, reduce post-harvest losses, and meet the stringent timelines of international buyers.
Exporters and farmers interested in the service can get more information through DHL Express Kenya offices or their official social media pages.
