Bahrain inspires global peace through partnerships

With a track record of promoting peaceful co-existence and peace within its borders and the Middle East, Bahrain is replicating its model across the world through partnerships and initiatives that have earned it recognition and applause.

Since being admitted to the UN in 1971, the Middle East Archipelago has been an active member by chairing sessions on human rights and global peace while making key contributions on settling disputes through   peaceful means and dialogue.

Under the tutelage of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Bahrain has also signed and ratified major global treaties that promote human rights and dignity of the global population which are key in maintaining harmony and world stability among them International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment Or Punishment. This, inspired by a history that dates back to over 200 years that has seen the ruling family embrace an open door policy towards foreigners of different religions and races.

The Prime Minister has equally championed, in word and deed, for one Bahrain united in faith, hope and love. As a result citizens of the world continue to be welcomed to the country and now call Bahrain home. The country is celebrated as a model of diversity in the Middle East.

Beyond its borders, Bahrain has also forged alliances with governments, regional and international organizations to advance the global peace message which has seen it receive delegations or send its team to foreign countries and forums to exchange and share experiences. The government has hosted high profiled delegation from the United Nations, Amnesty International, and the Directorate of the Peace Institute keen on deepening ties with Bahrain on global pursuit of peace.

The world has taken note of the investment Bahrain has made to global peace. The African Union in 2012 awarded Prince Khalifa an African Union Shield for what it said was the Premier’s keen interest to cement links with African countries and a tribute to his strenuous and distinguished efforts to promote peace and stability as well as enhance sustainable social and economic growth all over the world.

UNESCO conferred Prince Khalifa with a Peace Medal in tribute for his role in promoting peace and building good relations between Bahrain and various countries through cooperation and mutual respect.

The Association for the Furtherance of Peace has also bestowed the Prime Minister with a Flame of Peace honour for what it termed as recognition of his visionary leadership and crucial role in promoting peaceful co-existence among all religious and ethnic minorities living in Bahrain and in global initiatives meant to build bridges.

“His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa deserves the award for his leading role in consolidating humanitarian work and peace at the world level. This award is for the crucial role His Royal Highness has played in enhancing humanitarian work, promoting peace and strengthening humanitarian relations among peoples of the world. The Association of the Furtherance of Peace is proud of the achievements of the Prime Minister as a supporter of humanitarian work that aims to fulfil the peoples’ aspirations for peace.” Archduchess Herta Margarete President Association for the Furtherance of Peace said while giving the award.
